Seyka herself is probably the best thing about Burning Shores’ story. Realizing these events must be connected, the two team up and start combing the ruin-laden islands for clues. Enter Seyka, a Quen marine in search of her sister and other members of her tribe who went missing around the same time Aloy’s fugitive showed up. Aloy follows him to this new region, but upon arriving, she quickly discovers things are more complicated than she anticipated. Once you do, Aloy learns that one of the Zeniths ( Forbidden West’s primary antagonists) escaped the destruction of their base and fled south to the titular Burning Shores. Unlike The Frozen Wilds, which was a side story players could access midway through the first game, Burning Shores takes place after the events of Horizon Forbidden West, so you have to finish the main story before you can access the DLC. And a little over a year later, we have Burning Shores, a roughly 10-hour adventure that sees protagonist Aloy travel to the ruins of Los Angeles in pursuit of a dangerous enemy. When the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, released in early 2022, expectations were high that it too would get a DLC expansion. It was a great addition to the game that included some visual and gameplay improvements. Once you’ve gotten the items you need, remember that you can go to the Workbench and manually set an upgrade as a Job, guiding you to the nearest Machine Sites and Greenshine / Brimshine locations with what you need, and helping keep track of what you’ve found.Eight months after Horizon Zero Dawn’s release, Guerrilla Games surprised us with The Frozen Wilds, a DLC expansion that gave players a new area to explore, new machines to conquer, and a storyline centered around the lesser-known Banuk tribe. So, it’s better to wait and examine them for yourself: chances are you’ll find a new backbone to your arsenal! This also includes a Legendary Spike Thrower unlocked by completing one of the Side Quests. This is because a few minutes into the DLC, you’ll gain access to a Hunter and Stitcher who sell wares exclusive to the Burning Shores.īy and large, these items will be among the best in the entire game, with better core stats than even the New Game + Weapons. Once you reach the level cap, this will be the only way you can get more Skill Points.Ībstain from Upgrading Your Best EquipmentĪs unintuitive as this may sound, you’ll want to hold off on upgrading your best equipment until after starting the Burning Shores DLC. The above also applies to the Skill Points that Quests award for completing them: the higher the XP, the more free Skill Points you’ll receive for free on the side. You can see the amount of XP an unlocked Quest or Activity will give you by going to your Quests log in the pause menu. If you’re playing on one of the harder difficulties, you may even want to consider going to Level 60 and reaching 800 health!Īctivities that give the most XP include (in descending order): Cauldrons, Tallnecks, Relic Ruins, Salvage Contracts, Rebel Camps, and Side Quests marked with green exclamation marks on the map. You earn XP by taking down machines and completing Quests (the harder they are, the more XP you get). That in mind, it’s well worth going after at least the original Level 50 cap, since this gives you more Skill Points to play with, and increases Aloy’s health to 700.
